Alberta expected to trim deficit by $2B

Rebounding energy prices are expected to help keep Alberta’s projected deficit to around $4.4 billion this fiscal year—down from the record $6.9 billion forecast three months ago—according to government sources familiar with the coming fiscal update. The Stelmach government is set to release its second-quarter fiscal report by the end of November, but sources said Tuesday the deficit is expected to be readjusted to around $4.4 billion, not too far off the original budget estimate of $4.7 billion.
