Seven local companies finalists for awards

When the Alberta Chambers of Commerce announced its finalists for the 2010 Alberta Awards of Distinction last week, the short-list included seven Wood Buffalo companies, with five from Fort McMurray. While the past year has set the bar high in regards to businesses being compelled to transform their operations in the face of this year’s economic challenges, the federation pointed out the 29 finalists provide evidence Alberta’s entrepreneurial spirit is as strong as ever… “Each sponsor decides what the criteria are and each sponsor does the judging,” [Tracy Elofson, events manager] added. Those sponsors are Indian and Northern Affairs Canada, Alberta Aboriginal Relations, Alberta Human Rights and Citizenship Commission, Alberta Employment and Immigration, Alberta Chambers of Commerce, and the Chartered Accountants of Alberta.
