Jacques say farewell to GP

When Wayne [CA] and Myrna Jacques arrived in Grande Prairie from Vancouver in 1974, their intention was to stay three years and then move on. It took 37 years, but as of this weekend they’re heading to Edmonton to be closer to their two daughters and three grandchildren. They leave behind a legacy of community service, and have built a lifetime of memories with friends and family… Wayne was no less emotional at the thought of leaving behind a community he served in a variety of ways. “It’s hard. You look at the time we’ve been here… more than half my life, even at this stage,” he laughed. “It becomes your life, it’s part of your life. It’s your roots almost in some ways.” The couple moved here when Wayne, a chartered accountant, got an opportunity to cut his teeth at Canfor’s Grande Prairie operations. The original plan was to be here for three years, but in 1977 he was asked by a friend to join the Rotary Club and that set the stage for more than three decades of community service…
