The Complaints Inquiry Committee (CIC) is comprised of 11 Chartered Accountants and 2 public members.
The CIC, constituted under the Regulated Accounting Profession Act (RAPA) reviews investigation reports related to complaints and determines whether to direct no further action be taken, to provide guidance with respect to future conduct or practice, or to refer allegations of unprofessional conduct to the Discipline Tribunal Roster Chair.
Where allegations of unprofessional conduct have been referred, the CIC can approve a settlement agreement with the registrant. In addition, the CIC, with respect to any allegations referred, has the right to appeal any decision and order made by a discipline or appeal tribunal.
