Occasionally, the ICAA receives questions or complaints from clients of members in public accounting regarding the fees charged for services rendered. The ICAA's governing Act, Bylaws, and Rules of Professional Conduct do not allow ICAA to decide how much a member may charge. However, to help both parties settle a disagreement, the ICAA offers a Fee Mediation and Arbitration Service. This service is FREE, provided that both parties enter into the written fee resolution agreement, with all collection action ceasing.
This service provides a process to resolve fee disputes between members and clients, either through arbitration (formal and binding), or mediation (informal and not binding). Mediation is informal and not binding. Arbitration is more formal and, by prior agreement, binding on both parties, with no appeal. Both parties to a dispute must make written request for either mediation or arbitration services.
