CApitalize, launched in September 2009, is the new career information magazine produced by the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Alberta. Formerly known as Spotlight U, the publication has been refreshed and re-named to better reflect the students who make up its readership. CApitalize introduces students to the CA profession, as well as addresses broader career-related topics and issues. The magazine is distributed to more than 3,500 readers, including university, college, and high school students, as well as career counseling and other student-oriented centres and student groups.

Each year, the ICAA works with the post-secondary institutions to create this document that is available to students interested in pursuing their CA designation. This guide introduces students to the CA recruitment process, and allows them to review office profiles and other post-secondary information.

Every fall, the ICAA holds Meet the Training Office events in Edmonton, Calgary, and Lethbridge. These events allow accounting students to meet potential employers and talk to them about the requirements for applying for a CA articling position. The format is similar to a career fair, but is intended for students who will be going through the fall recruitment. For information on this event, click on Upcoming Events.
Each year, the ICAA works with various post-secondary institutions to create the university recruitment calendar. The purpose of this collective recruitment calendar is to provide CA Training Offices (CATOs) with access to students in a coordinated manner, and to establish consistency across campuses by harmonizing dates for recruitment of accounting students. Students typically go through accounting recruitment in the fall of their last year of studies, and are recruited for CA articling position commencing after graduation. Students need to submit applications for CA articling positions by the date set out in the recruitment calendar. This allows for CA Training Offices to conduct interviews during the first three weeks in October. Students will receive job offers on the CA offer date, and will have to respond to offers on the CA acceptance date.
